Sustainable Ice Hockey
For the first time we are collaborating with a Finnish sports team.
Blues Juniors, one of the leading and most successful Finnish junior ice hockey clubs in the 2000s, is aiming to switch to jerseys made with recycled materials. Blues Juniors will be the first Finnish ice hockey club to play in “sustainable jerseys”. The club is partnering with Coca-Cola Finland, whose corporate responsibility programme is largely focusing on the “new life” of the bottle. Touchpoint Oy, one of the leading circular economy companies in Finland, will be producing the new sustainable jerseys.
“Of course, ice hockey is the core of our operations, but we are also working in different ways to express for example our rearing responsibility. We are actively working with schools to combine studying and this demanding sport to make sure that both are winning. By switching to jerseys made with recycled materials, we demonstrate our environmental responsibility”, noted Pekka Soini, the chairman of Blues Juniors.
“Coca-Cola works to improve technologies and projects, that ensure recycled materials can be utilized in the company’s drink packaging, as well as in other products. We encourage all consumers to recycle their bottles with caps, which is why we are involved in this Blues Junior’s forerunner project. It is a considerable and concrete action promoting sustainability”, says Thea Natri of Coca-Cola Finland.
“TouchPoint is extremely excited about this new breakthrough. We compliment Blues Juniors for their understanding and courage to set out to lead the way for other clubs and sports. As a pioneer in our field, we know that sustainable development needs action, not speech. Based on this way of thinking, Touchpoint Oy was also born”, says Outi Luukko, CEO of Touchpoint Oy.
“We are enormously proud to have partners who are pioneers in their industry. This gives value to the important work that we do, not only on the ice but off it as well in order to benefit our community”, says Pekka Soini the chairman of the Blues Juniors.
